The Atherton/St.Helens service was a joint LUT/St.Helens Corporation service and the trolley bus nearest the camera is in St.Helens livery. The trolleys were due to be replaced by ordinary buses in 1956 but this was postponed until 1957 or 1958 due to the fuel shortage created by the Suex crisis.
