This looks like Bolton Road, behind the tram is The Cross Keys hotel, now no. 15. The houses in the background are where Aldi is now.

good guess with the date Ron, it was 1927, photo by Dr. H.A. Whitcombe. he also took a photo of wigan tram No 40 outside the robin hood pub the same day
