Many happy memories here! Getting dressed in our 'trench coats', walking around on Saturday afternoon. Looking for a record: Martins, Javlins, or a walk to Smiths!

I thought it spelled the end for Wigan's character and atmosphere.

I left Wigan in 75, there was still the old Market Place and all the old arcades then and like Irene says, taking out the market and arcades was the beginning of the end for Wigan..All of the History and Character has gone now, to be replaced by ugly monstrosities that don't belong there..

I worked in Bambers clothes shop in the early 1980s, opposite was Chelsea girl, Manfield shoe shop on the opposite corner where I also worked. Etams and Tammy girl further up, Greens men's wear wear top left. We used to send any newbies up to them for a long stand or glass hammer. Rac used to have a stand or some other sales company in the front of the shop. Co-op had a shop on 2 levels and we used to get our toast in the mornings from there. We blasted music out the doors. Many a time finished the day with a drink in Blutos or the Bees knees. Days before online shopping and when everyone knew everyone.
