Reminds me of the Machine Shop at Horwich Loco Works, that.
All the machines (including my lathe) running off an overhead belt system.
I went roumd the Pagefield works with the school, about 1951/2

Worked at Walmsley's till it shut 3and half years ago in Bolton,also a turner but never on m/c with over head belt drive.

My Grandad worked here all of his working life - as a crane driver.

Hi Dave if the Health and Safety brigade had been around 200 years ago. We would now all be looking at wiganworld on steam operated computers.

Loved to have had a look round this machine shop, they used to make rollers for the web on the old Wigan Observer press in Rowbottom Square, after the 2nd world war. It's places like this, that's made the Modern World. Great photo Ron.
