Are these ovens the Coke Ovens? I remember working on the coke ovens at the Irlam Steel Works ( Lancashire Steel Corporation) during my school holidays in the late 50's. We went on the train from Wigan Central Station to Irlam/Cadishead.

Yes, these are the coke ovens.The view shows the coke discharge side. Top left is the charging hopper, and ton the left of that can be seen part of the aerial ropeway bringing the raw coal to the hopper. The ovens at Irlam would have been of a later design to these, possibly the Koppers type.
