Taken probably late 1940s or early 1950s.

While the Admiralty depot and the neighbouring Risley ROF were significant local employers during and post-war, you'll probably not see any local faces among these technicians: recruited for their skills in the advanced fields of electronics/radio/radar, they'd be posted to Risley from across the nation. Most would be billeted at the nearby Admiralty camp of HMS Gosling, over by the signal-box at Glazebrook and adjacent to the Worsnops' farm.

My mother, Elizabeth Olive Smith, worked as a secretary for the Admiralty at Risley during the late 1940s. She always spoke very highly of her managers and colleagues and was very sad when they moved back to Portsmouth.

Risley and Glazebrook are hardly Wigan related?

I have just found out that my mum (Mary Dorothy Lamkin) was a secretary at the admiralty Risley. Does anyone remember her? She has dementia now, so would be nice to know about her past work life.
