This photo was taken on the retirement from Cromtons of my grandma, Ivy Taylor, taken in the mid 1970's. In the photo is Ivy (centre) and Jenny, i do not know the other lady's name.

Ged, was that Hilda Fernley who lived next door to you.. I remember she used to let all us kids in to watch 'Children's hour' when none of us had a tv. Super nice of her to do that, as I don't think she had any children of her own.

I lived in Wigan for many years through the 80s and 90s, never heard of Cromptons, where and what was it?

Thomas Cromptons & sons was a factory situated off Gerard St, Ashton-in-Makerfield. Originally specialising as a locksmith and blacksmith they went on to make butt hinges and was during the 1980's the the largest employer in the town. Cromptons in Aston was shutdown in 1994.

yes the lady on the right is my sister in law lily maddocks.she sadly passed away some years ago.
