We used to play pops in the corner to the right of the steps. We played nucky and ringy. I was the best and regularly whupped the hide off Cliff Higham. But C.H. used to cheat. He would shout "bags crocodiles" and stretch out full length to get near the ring or nucky. Cheeting b____r.

Wow, amazing to see this. I went to St Georges from 1954/55 to 1960, so I was there when this photo was taken. I remember it perfectly. Behind the back of the photo-taker was a high wall with the polluted River Douglas at the bottom. I climbed that wall a thousand times. In that playground I had my first fight and got a bloody nose. When I left St Georges, I won a prize for having never missed a day of school. My brother won the same prize 2 years earlier. If I ever felt sick my dad would just say .. "get up yer lazy bugger and get to school". But I never left home without eating a bowl of hot porridge. Happy days.

I used to climb the wall and play with the girls. Billy Spencer constantly wacked me with his stick "Rupert". But it was woth it.

pity about Mr Spencer,he was a cracking bloke who liked a bet,was always in bookies corner of Great Acre, certainly not a snob like plenty teachers
