I think this may have been 'Leaving Day' (we didn't have leaving balls in those days),because we are all out of uniform.
In the background can be seen some of the buildings in Market Street, Hindley.
Back row, left to right:
Edna Berry, Beth Critchley, Kathleen Dyke, Monica Lister, Brenda Forshaw.
Front row:
Margaret Wall, Mary Burke, Marie Burke, Sheila Doherty, Lynn Naughton.

Yes, no ballgowns to be seen in those days!Just look at the skirts, - they were probably considered quite short then. All round Darby Lane is residential housing now, of course. Thanks for lovely photos. Liz Fairclough.

You were lucy. When I left Cardinal Newman you just left. I was there from 1958 until 1962. We were the first pupils and went into the 2nd yr.

I remember nearly all the people mentioned on all of the six photographs, even though I was only in my 3rd Year and these pupils were our Prefects. I know some details of what happened to one or two of them, but the rest seem to have disappeared without a trace. Much is the same regarding quite a number of the pupils in my year too.

I came upon these pics by accident and they brought lots of memories flooding back. Although I had left the previous year having been in the inaugural 1st year in 1958/59 I remember lots of faces, Margaret and Barbara were great friends of my sister Margaret and she will be delighted to see these blasts from the past, also a lot of them came from St Williams.
I often have fleeting memories of my time at Cardy as they were probably some of my most treasured. I have only a few recollections of meeting any of my old classmates but do have tenuous links with one, Bill Burke, through relatives and friends, sorry there aren't more lasting connections from those halcyon day. If anyone has pics of the class of 64 please upload and I'll check the site again for news.

ps, was looking for old pics of Ince Green Lane with the posibility of known images to relate to my parents. Mainly Lower Ince end and possibly going back to the 30's, 40's and 50's.

jd (derbio my school nickname)

What a great photo. This was my year group and I remember a lot of the names. I commenced at Cardinal Newman in the 3rd year. Due to life circumstances I never stayed at any school for very long so was not very memorable. I was one of two girls with long straight red hair. The other one being Irene Wyatt. If anyone does remember me and would like to get in touch that would be so great.
