A very nice photo Mr Richards. And perhaps Mary and her classmates are shown using their water-soluble pencils, as they're certainly taking part in some sort of detailed work. The girl at dead centre, having a 'peep', and the two girls on the extreme left, lit up by artificial light, provide other nice touches to your charming photograph. The two girls on the left remind me of the young girl in the centre of Tom Roberts's painting 'Shearing the Rams'; she almost steals the show.

The 'tarboy', in the centre of Tom Roberts's painting, had been modelled on 9-year-old Susan Bourne.

My era, but St Mary's, Lower Ince.

Is this St Mary's CE in Lower Ince? That church near Wigan and Ince cemeteries was demolished in the 1970s. I initially thought it was St Mary's RC in Standishgate.
