Wigan Album

A well preserved gem. I think the placard says 'Wigan Wesleyan School Standard II Boys'.

I remember that half underground playground from when I went to the school in Dicconson St in the late 1940s.
A school I have many memories of.....some of my happier memories of school days.

Surely I cant be the only person who remembers going to The Wesleyan School ??

No Helen,you aren't the only one who remembers the Wesleyan school. I was also there in the 40s ,probably at the same time as you. Miss Moorfield was headmistress and Miss Wilcock a slightly feared but much respected senior teacher. Happy days

Benny, your mention of Miss Wilcox reminded me that she had a sister teaching at St Catharines where I was one of the pupils in the early 50's. I always remember having, at one time, weekly "competitions" between the 11+ groups from both schools in the form of tests, no doubt aimed at the 11+ exams. Probably organised on an unofficial basis by the two sisters to compare the two schools. All of it designed to help and improve our chances of passing the exam - I think the word dedicated certainly applied to both of them.
