Although I was from Ince, I worked at Richardson's Chemists in High Street, Standish, in the early 1970s, and Miss Wilding seems very familiar; I think she may have been a customer at the chemists.

Irene, Miss Wilding lived only a few yards up the road from the chemist, her father had a shop adjoining the White Duck you can just see it on the right hand side of the White Duck photo.

Miss (Molly) Light was Australian i believe, can anyone confirm that?

I have a very similar photo (I will scan and upload soonish), only slightly better focus than this, the same people, same clothes in different positions.
As far as I know:
Top LR - (you say Tommy Snape) , Ken Orrell (my father), (?) , (you say Billy Garner)
Bottom LR Olwyn Rowena Elizabeth Cordelia Lloyd Wilding, Miss Molly Light, Mrs Goodwin, (you say Mrs Turner).

I got my info from Ken Orrell's cousin Hilda Day (nee Lythgoe), still going and living in Blackpool.
Miss Wilding's father Tom Wilding had a bile shop on Standish High Street.
Mrs Goodwin - did she have a daughter Shiela? As a Sheila Goodwin was school friend with my wife nee Susan Lyon.

Albert, any chance of a copy of your original, I'll send mine to you (or anyone else) if you let me have your email address.

Roy ? can confirm the answer to the question on Miss Light, see photo in this section J3 1952.You have some great photos
on here Albert. You will remember the class buying Tommy Snape a present for his retirement; he totally appreciated it, he was like that in dishing out punishment, he gave us the choice, the Strap or the Cane.

Comment by: Roy Huxley on 27th September 2012 at 19:38

Linda, there were quite a few Standish lads me included who could reel Olwyn,s full title off at the drop of a hat. Peter it was me Roy who stated on the photo of J3 1952 that Molly Light was an Aussie, i asked the question on here to see if anyone could confirm it. I,m 99% sure that she was.

Comment by: Roy Huxley on 27th September 2012 at 19:57

Jim, i know Mrs Goodwin had a daughter Christine, i see her most days in Standish, dont know if she had a sister or not.

Thanks Roy, got your comment from the other side.
Mrs. Goodwin, I think all will know, lived in Greenland Avenue, southern side of the school playground. Serious question Albert: Have you got any photographs of the Bulldog your family used to have?

I have it on good authority that the missing member of staff is Mr Halton.

Comment by: albert langton on 7th October 2012 at 18:05

peter remember the names of the the cane and strap i think it was aunt suzy and uncle herbert

Comment by: Peter W. on 8th October 2012 at 01:29

I remember one of the implements being 'uncle herbert' can't say which one though. How did Tommy get to the school from Preston, there was just one car in Green Lane and that was Bob Baker's.

Mrs Turner helped me enormously by giving me private tuition (no charge, of course) at her home just off Wigan Lane before the eleven+. She probably made the difference... kindness I only began to appreciate much later.
