Carnival float sometime in the 1950s shows St Stephen's PTA as The balck and White Minstrels. those in shot include: Marian Stokes, Evelyn Parkinson, Ada Bolton, Jack Wynnard?, Tom Stockley? Hester Hesketh. Again any help with the occasion, date and names (diffcult enough even without the make up and the missing part!) would be appreciated.

I have seen this photo many times - on the front row, sitting, is my Dad, Norman Hesketh and my Mum, Esther (2nd &3rd from the right). The man in the bow tie I'm sure is Mr Tickle - ''Mr Interlocutor'' as his part was referred to, (lived in Pyke Street and had a printer's business at the bottom of Greenhough Street immediately before the River Douglas (before the days of the present Central Park Way). It is in the 1950's, Mr Swift was headmaster at St. Stephen's. They had a very active PTA with lots of good social events.

The photo I think is taken in Bradshaw St and the houses in the background are on the corner of Nutt St. My five sisters and myself all went to St Stephen's and my sister Joan is also going to have some comments when she sees the picture.

Hello Derek, Marian Stokes was my mother in law (that's where the photos of St Stephen's PTA and others have come from) and I know she was very active in the PTA along with friends Evelyn Parkinson and Ada Bolton. I will ensure my wife Pauline sees your comment. Does Joan still live in Bottling Wood? My mum Doreen Hankin (long time Sunday School Teacher at St Catharine's) knew Joan well from St Catharine's where I believe Joan was over the Girl Guides for some time. I have picked Joan up once or twice (when Rita Mc Nally was away) to take her to St Catharine's on a Sunday morning. I hope she is keeping well as I know she has been unable to come to church for some time now.
