Anyone remember the School Holiday in Staithes Yorkshire about 1960?.
The "luxury apartments" consisted of ex army nissen huts and the morning wake up call was provided by Freddie Firth, the headmaster (a brass band fanatic) giving us a blast on his instrument.
I think the lad in the photo is called Crooks but I could be wrong.
Still it was a great holiday.

I remember the cafe but couldn't remember the name.First time I ever had ice cold Coke, magic!.
The record of the day was Good Timing/Handiman by Jimmy Jones, it was on the juke box all day long.

Went to that camp in 1967 with UpHolland village school.
No Health and Safety then, or 'risk assessments'.
The teachers seemed to spend half their time administering first aid, or drying kids out who had fallen into the sea.
None of us suffered any real harm, and we had the time of our lives. Present day children don't know what they are missing.

I remember going to Staithes, remember Copper Kettle and Del Shannon's Runaway. We hadn't to go into the Kettle so we gave our money to someone inside to play the record we wanted. Went back to North Yorkshire to do some walking and visited Staithes about 4 years ago because I really enjoyed the hol. Believe it or not those huts are still there! Had a chat to a local who said they were now privately owned and were all quite posh inside! What an improvement!! Staithes has not changed much except there is now a concrete wall to hold back the sea and protect the village. If you ignore that, it's much the same.

Sandra I'm truly amazed that those huts are still standing after 50 odd years!!.They don't make `em like that any more.
Did you go on the trip to Douglas I.O.M the following year?.

Dennis, Yes I did go on the trip to the I of Man. I couldn't remember exactly when it was and for some reason I have no recolection of any part of the holiday except that I was sea sick all the way there and all the way back! I'm glad you mentioned it I was beginning to think I had imagined it! I can't remember where we stayed or what kind of place we slept in. Can't imagine it would have been much better than the Staithes huts. I do remember people who were in the school choir entered a competition because Miss Eastwood was on the trip and if you remember she did music.

Sandra As I recall we stayed in a very old house at the top of a hill with steep steps up to the front door, although we had our meals at a kind of holiday camp. I remember there was a swimming pool and a roller skating rink. I have a few not very good photos that I took at the time somewhere.
I certainly remember Miss Eastwood, being one of the first pupils when the school opened she roped me in, along with some other unfortunate kids, to sing for the official opening. "All in the April Evening" is forever imprinted on my brain.

About Lindsay Terrace, I am sure William Gambles lived there but I have never seen him since school. Must have been asleep during the I of Man holiday, probably still getting over the journey. I started at Aspull on the very first day in January and was in 1A. It seemed a very big school at the time. Remember many class mates but don't see very many now. Attended the re union a few years ago. Was it 25 years of the school? Then they pulled it down. Those houses are on my hockey pitch!!

I remember the trip to Staithes very well. Had a great time, I remember trip to Whitby and a dog ran off with my 'beloved' hat thank goodness, I didn't have to wear it again as it was all out of shape!

I have very fond memories of staying at the holiday camp in Staithes in the early sixties. We went to the Copper Kettle and played Del Shannon's Runaway non stop. Visited recently and the camp is sill there. I was thirteen again!

I went there twice with Up Holland junior school in 1963 & 64. Two of the best weeks of my life.
