That's Eddie Rudd, 4th in from left back row. He taught me in 1952, his first teaching post, at St Catherines Primary School, Schofield Lane. He also played wing half for Horwich RMI and later became Headteacher at St Catherines. Very sadly he died quite young, leaving a grieving family. He was an admirable man, an excellent role model and a fine footballer.

Eddie Rudd was also a fine opening batsman for Wigan Cricket Club, opening the innings with another excellent cricketer from WGS, Frank Layland. Eddie was also very kind to me when I first started to play ay Wigan.
