I remember your mum and dad, particularly your mum with her bright red hair standing at the front door with her arms folded looking very forceful, we were always scared of her as kids. I also remember your dad buying a ford prefect car some time in the 50's which he kept in the back garden for a while. I lived at No 57 until 1963 when I joined the navy. Other people in the street were the Aspeys, Cheethams, Baggelys, Hersnip, great name, and Shaw. Was your dads name Harry, and did you have a brother called harry.

Lovely old photo thanks for putting it on. I started at pem primary in infant 1 in 1956 I wonder if I would have been there on that day. I remember Miss Pennington/ Mrs Moyle getting married and us all having to get used to a different name for her. My memories of her was of a tall woman (when your 5 everybodies tall), striding around the corridors. She often wore a twin set matching jumper and cardy with the cardy draped over her shoulders. Whenever I think of her I always get a image of Joyce Grenfell. I wonder what happened to her she cant still be alive surely.

Hi Roy, yes I remember you and your mam and dad, I vaguely recall you joining the navy. Yes my dad's name was Harry, also my brother's (haven't had any contact with him since my parents died, he lives in Yorkshire). I remember the other families you mention and George Cheetham's wife Marian is a dear friend of mine; George died about 12 years ago. My dad bought the Ford Prefect from George's dad, Tommy, before that we had a Ford Anglia, beautiful black shiny cars they were, my sister and I used to earn extra pocket money washing and polishing the car on Saturdays.

Hi Brian, no you wouldn't have been there at the time, it was June 1953 (forgot to put the year on, date was on the back of the photo). The garden party was probably in aid of the coronation. Miss Pennington, most kids were frightened of her, she was "cane-happy".

I once had the misfortune to visit the dentists at this school. I made sure I didn't go again.

Pem Primary must have been the only school in Wigan with its own dentists surgery I never had dental treatment there but the nit nurse used to use the room to go through our heads. It was located off the entrance hall which they used to call the "crush hall" for some strange reason. Do you remember the stone figure of a child sitting cross legged reading a book that was on the concrete lintel above the main entrance. Does anyone know when the school opened and was Miss Pennington the head from the start ? I suppose it would have to ready before the estate was finished and large numbers of famlies started moving in. I was born in 1951 in troutbeck rise off lamberhead rd and that house was brand new then.

I went to Pem. Primary. I started there on the day it opened. It was end of Aug. 1951. Miss Pennington was the 1st headmistress,also Mr Cook & Mr Martindale were teachers. I left there to go to St Marks Senior School in 1955.My name in those days was Marilyn Longshaw, anyone there who was in my class

i loved pem primary! i started there in 1960, our eric started in 1958 and our carole started in 1964 i always remember the play that i think all the school was in, the blue rose. if anybodys got any pictures with me on i'd love to see them.

Judith, my younger sister Alison was in "the blue rose", remember it well!

Yes we lived at 18 Scafell Drive. Next door to Conroys

I remember Keith Cheatam and Robert and Clive Aspey
