Another photo from Jelly Sunday. This must be the end of the walk because as you can see the children are stood on the village green. In the background you can see bluebell wood and the mill fields. If you look closely you can see the buntings overhead, this photo was taken around 1939, and was a big occasion in those days sadly like all other traditional events it seems to have died a death. It only takes place every 5 years now and they no longer stop at the village green. On the Lt of the photo inbetween the 2 front boys is Bill Ryder. Dave wondered if the boy on the Rt of the photo was a lewis and the one next to him holding the ribbon looks like his brother. Can anyone name any more.

Hiya Woodentop, no Im not the sister of the Ryder boys. Im married to Will who is Bills son. Yes your right they did have a sister Marion. They moved to Wigan Rd in about 1940 from Downall Green. Sadly Bill died 15yrs ago next month aged 60. Marion emigrated to America in the late 50's but died over there 3 months after Bill aged 61. There is a photo of Marion on the album page 6 taking part in walking day.

Woodentop, thats right they did live at Wigan Rd for a number of years after they left Downall Green. Old Bill died from Wigan Rd in 1968. They did have a pony in the stable at the rear of the house it was also kept on the pen at Dam Corner in fact they had 2 at one time. I will put a picture on the album.
