The Man between the lady and Norman Holland is the headmaster, Mr. Hurst. The man at the other end of the row in the blue suit is Mr. Bailey.

Comment by: David J Bevan on 8th March 2009 at 15:18

The tall chap was Stan Greenwood and not Ron has stated by Alan Marsh.Don Greenwood,Stans brother is on the right at the rear.

quite right david ,had a stab at the name, what i was focusing on at the time was how that photo came to be ,as davies st., houses where built in blocks of four, with a break inbetween each block, and for that to be neville st., the houses are on the wrong side if that is the chip shop on liverpool rd.,brill photo ,but a bit of a mystery.

Stanley and Donald Greenwood were choirboys at St Nathaniel's Church, the same time as myself and my late brother James. Norman Holland was the choirmaster then, he was also the local coal merchant. I believe he lived in a detached house in Moss Lane

AT FIRST GLANCE YES IT DOES LOOK LIKE DAVIES STREET, BUT THERE ARE TWO MANY HOUSES, THIS LOOKS LIKE THE CENOTAPH END OF NEVILLE STREET BUT LOOKING UP FROM THE CHIPPY TOWARDS WALTHEW LANE. A CONFUSING PHOTOGRAPH INDEED.

Comment by: Mary Sayers on 29th April 2011 at 20:01

Boy on right is Peter Wilson, son of the then vicar, whom you can see behind the choir master.

Comment by: Bill Dwyer on 24th October 2011 at 02:28

Aye,it's definitely David St,Harry Marsh & his brother Allan lived in house on left hand side.If you look carefully at the white building at the end of street, the groundfloor window you will see the cross that was in the cenotaph standing up.At one time the white building was Gladys Bennetts chippy.

Comment by: JOHN BAILEY on 8th November 2011 at 14:18

NO DOUGHT ABOUT IT, ITS DAVIS ST.MARSHY SHOULD KNOW BETTER HE USED TO LIVE THERE.

Comment by: Derek Greenwood on 28th January 2013 at 17:00

This photo IS Neville Street, but is a mirror image of what it should be. Our house was no.2 at the far end of the row, but looks like the wrong side of the road! Cenotaph is visible from both Neville and Davies St. White building is the old doctors' surgery. My two brothers are Stan and Don as identified. Davies St houses were a shorter row.

Comment by: Margaret Grundy on 3rd June 2013 at 22:40

The street is Davies St. The building at the end was the chip shop on Liverpool road.

Comment by: Peter wilson on 9th May 2022 at 19:00
