The right hand side of Ormskirk Rd was still the same roughly 20yrs later although the left hand side altered dramatically.

30 years after this photo all the businesses on the right hand side were still there, with the exception of Metro cleaners. Jack Carrington even had the same shop sign!

Ken, don't suppose you know the names of the two men at the front? I keep looking at the one on the left hand side and thinking it could be my Grandad - Bill Swift.

Fantastic photo of the bottleneck as I remember it from the 1950's-1960's. Jimmy Stokes greengrocers on the right and Englands butchers on the left, both out of sight.

Many thanks for this, Ken.

I remember this scene when I was under 10 years old. The buildings on the left were pulled down next to the pub and later the Working Mens Club built in their place with steps going through to White Street. You could book coach trips at the newsagents on the end of White Street.
